The Weekend Service in Dundee

The Weekend Service was established in November 2005. The aim of this service is to combat social isolation with activity based groups which promote inclusion and enable Service Users to use community facilities.

This was in response to existing Positive Steps Service Users who requested weekend support. The service commences at 6pm on a Friday and finishes on Sunday at 5pm. Throughout this period various activities are on offer including the breakfast club and group activities, such as darts, outings and movie evenings.

Maureen Tolland, Project Manager explained that “The service was set up with a clear focus on a ‘person-centred’ approach. The Service User’s consultation group enables and encourages participants to be included in each aspect of the activities on offer”.

There are plans to expand the service over the next few months and the focus will be on inclusion, especially thoughout the winter months. This can be a time of year when Service Users are at their most vulnerable due to increased financial burdens of heating costs and the pressures that are associated with the Christmas period.
