Specialist
Advice, Advocacy and Administration workers introduced in
Support Services Dundee.
Positive
Steps is enhancing the support provided to service users in
Dundee by providing specialist Advice Advocacy and Administration
(AAA) workers to work alongside Support Workers in providing
support to vulnerable people.
With
Positive Steps now supporting around 120 people with physical
and mental health problems in Dundee, the AAA workers will
provide specialist support in dealing with housing, legal
and financial matters, areas which frequently prove problematic
for this group of people. Providing this support through a
dedicated specialist allows the service user’s Support
Worker to concentrate on providing personal 1:1 support, working
with the individual to help them address their own individual
barriers and achieve independent living.
Marion
Watson is the first AAA worker to be appointed in Dundee.
“The creation of this role is very exciting, and
we are already seeing the results, particularly in the area
of budgeting, where we are making real progress in helping
service users manage their money” commented Marion.
“We are also seeing that Support Workers are able
to spend more time providing personal support to service users”.
2
more AAA workers are set to be appointed over coming months
to make the service available to all service users.
Positive
Steps is continuing to develop relationships with partner
agencies in the East of Scotland who refer service users to
Positive Steps. Iain MacPherson, Supported Accommodation Project
Manager, recently gave a presentation to over 100 voluntary
sector agencies in Dundee, outlining the work of Positive
Steps in the city and inviting referrals to the project. Iain
comments “The strong links and close working relationships
we have with Dundee City Council Social Work Department and
local Health Professionals, coupled with the new service specification
recently agreed with the Dundee City Council Supporting People
Team, who part fund our work, takes what Positive Steps is
doing to a new level of professionalism.”.
